About

The Harrison/Small building houses the Mary and David Harrison Institute for American History, Literature, and Culture, which offers programs, fellowships, and exhibitions. The Institute’s building also houses the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. The building also houses permanent and temporary exhibition space. Permanent exhibitions include “Declaring Independence: Creating and Recreating America's Document.”

The Taylor Nook, located on the third floor of the building, is a small quiet space for reading or study.

The Auditorium is located on the bottom floor of Harrison/Small and can be booked for University or public events, find out more and request a reservation.

The Special Collections Reading Room is located on the bottom floor of Harrison/Small and provides comfortable seating for use of Special Collections materials. Learn more about planning a visit to Special Collections.

Current exhibition

Celebrating the life and legacy of Anne Spencer — Harlem Renaissance poet; civil rights activist; librarian and educator; avid reader and prolific writer. On view through June 14, 2025 in Special Collections.
