The Library licenses ebooks, ejournals, images, and other databases for use by students, faculty, faculty emeritus, and staff of the University.
These licensed databases can be used from computers on Grounds, or through EZproxy or VPN when off Grounds.
EZproxy
The Library maintains a proxy server (EZproxy) that provides access to selected web resources, including all UVA Library databases. A proxy link will begin with: https://proxy1.library.virginia.edu/login?url=
Proxy link generator
This will only work for content accessible through subscription services offered by the UVA Library. If you copy a link directly from the Library website, that link should already have the proxy URL present in the link address.
“UVA Anywhere”
ITS provides a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that puts your computer temporarily on the UVA network, from anywhere. You’ll need to register with ITS to put a certificate on your computer, and then download and install the network software.
Once it's set up, UVA Anywhere provides reliable access to Library databases and other University resources.
