Overleaf

Overleaf is an easy-to-use online LaTeX editor. It requires no installation, and allows real-time collaborative editing of a document, with version control. Overleaf provides hundreds of templates for documents, and an extensive collection of LaTeX tutorials. Previous users of ShareLaTeX will recognize many of the features; ShareLaTeX and Overleaf have merged, with the new Overleaf platform the result.

The UVA Library has purchased a group license for Overleaf, available to anyone with a virginia.edu email address (you will be prompted to join the license when you register for an account). This license gives access to the features of a Pro account, including:

  • Unlimited collaborators
  • Simultaneous editing
  • Full document history, comments and track changes
  • Sync to Dropbox and github
  • Figshare, Zotero, ORCiD, and Mendeley integration
  • Up to 500 files per project, and an unlimited number of projects, with 10GB of storage space on Overleaf.

To sign up for Overleaf, just visit the UVA portal on the Overleaf site (http://www.overleaf.com/edu/virginia). If you already have an individual account, with a virginia.edu email address, you will be prompted to join the group license the next time you log in. If you previously had a ShareLaTeX account through the previous UVA license, your account should have been migrated to Overleaf.

Please contact Ricky Patterson (ricky@virginia.edu) if you have any questions about UVA’s license for Overleaf.
