Job summary
Scott Ackerman is the Associate Director for Organizational Culture, Learning and Outreach at UVA Library. Scott is responsible for overseeing the implementation and promotion of organizational learning and professional development opportunities for Library staff, as well as immersive community-building programming. He also works to build outreach strategies and community building programming within and beyond the University through new and existing initiatives. Working with Associate Dean for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Catalina Piatt-Esguerra, he provides thought leadership on initiatives, policy, and programming, communications counsel and content; innovation in outreach strategies; support to managers and standing committees as relevant. Scott currently serves as the co-chair for the IDEA Committee.
Professional profile
Before joining UVA, Scott served as Coordinator of Teaching and Learning at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg Virginia, where he was also an Associate Professor. In this capacity, Scott helped build the institutions public profile, starting the Community Conversations Lecture Series, design and implement professional development for faculty and staff, and lead Germanna's Quality Enhancement Plan. An experienced educator and museum professional, Scott has taught at Bronx Community College and Lehman College, and led historic tours and education programs at President Lincoln's Cottage in Washington, D.C. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the Graduate Center, City University of New York, an MA in History from George Mason University, and a BA in History from Dickinson College. He is currently working on his first book project, examining the implementation of federal emancipation policy by the Union Army during the Civil War.
