3D printing

RMC 3D Printing Studio

The 3D Printing Studio houses 10 FDM printers that (after an online orientation and an in-person assessment) are free and open to anyone at the University! Our goal is to make 3D printing easy to use, free of cost, and accessible to all. We offer group trainings, workshops, and events to help Library visitors learn and master 3D printing technology.

If you are a certified user, but looking to get advanced training, check out group trainings.

Please note that the training schedule is updated in the first week of each semester, and trainings may not be available during key weeks of the year, such as during finals. See upcoming trainings on the Library calendar.

The 3D printers are free to use for students, faculty, staff, and community members. We have student Technologists on hand to help you through every step of the 3D printing process. We can help with specialized filament requests, and we have a large format printer that can print sizes up to 360×360×360 mm (14.17’’×14.17’’×14.17’’).

You can come in during open hours for in-person training and on-the-spot reservations. In order to reserve the FFF printers before coming to the Makerspace, you will need to complete an online certification, but no other training or experience is necessary before you come in to use the 3D printers.

Resin printer certification is forthcoming. To use the resin 3D printer, speak with a Makerspace Technologist, or email slabmakerspace@virginia.edu.
